Starting to hit the reset button

I’m not sure how much I’ll get into it here but as part of hitting my reset button and getting back living life in the way I enjoy (read: I suck at being a 20 something… it’s horribly unredeeming) I’ve finished a book and am going to do quite a bit more reading.

Could making abortion legal significantly affect the crime rate 15 years in the future? The author has research that says yes.

The book was Freakonomics; read the blog as well, it’s a good place to check out once a week or so. Good book with the only criticism being that it was written much to simple and like most books targeted at the mass market didn’t get deep enough into the more complex pieces.

There is a very good article on the site; I encourage folks to read this essay. As a teaser here is part of it:

“Fryer’s notion that there might be a genetic predisposition at work was heightened when he came across a period illustration that seemed to show a slave trader in Africa licking the face of a prospective slave. The ocean voyage from Africa to America was so gruesome that as many as 15 percent of the Africans died en route, mainly from illnesses that led to dehydration. A person with a higher capacity for salt retention might also retain more water and thus increase his chance of surviving.”

Next I finish Cadillac Desert and then Buffetology which are both started. From there I hope to get deep into Ayn Rand.

end

  1. You are a big person, much bigger than I. I too owe my blog an apology. I hope it will forgive me when I grow cohones and finally apologize.

  2. Hitting the Reset button is crucial sometimes. Thanks for reminding me.
